Join us Saturday, May 24th from 1-3pm with wax sculptor Heather O'Shaughnessy for an afternoon exploring sympathetic magic through the quiet ritual of sculpting wax poppets. A poppet is a small hand-formed figure traditionally used in folk practices as a symbolic stand in for a person, animal, intention, or desired outcome.
Found across many historical traditions, poppets were often crafted from humble materials such as cloth, wax, or clay and incorporated botanicals chosen for their symbolic, healing and magical associations. Rooted in the practice of sympathetic magic, the idea that an object can symbolically influence what it represents, the poppet has long functioned as a ritual tool.
In this workshop, we will spend the afternoon sculpting poppets from beeswax, incorporating herbs and thoughtfully setting personal intentions as we work, exploring the point where art meets intention.
All materials provided with extra molding wax to take home. No experience necessary.
